Who's News

I often feel barraged by bull …. this has been tripping around in my head in one form or another! For you Paddy ….

Who’s News?

Seems that those who are in control have all really done their bit

Resulting in an exponential increase in what I suspect absolute bullshit

The feed is almost constant now and conspires to daily deceive

The general population with a steady diet of make-believe

Sorting fact from fiction now is difficult, even impossible to call

I wonder what version or level of truth is shared to one and all

Now the strangest thing I glean from this that I find a little odd

Why we’d consider listening to those for whom, only money is their God

The wealthy could easily solve the world’s ills of poverty and health

And still be left with what would be, what you’d term obscene wealth

Those who question are vilified for exercising their basic right

To query those faceless persons and continue with their fight

Against global corporations who control most the terms of play

And barrage us with misinformation for twenty four hours every day

So call me mad and doubt I’m sane, that’s a prerogative for you

But do not discount the ones who care and give a contrary point of view

History is sadly riddled with those who will always seek personal gain

Regardless of the havoc wreaked and resultant grief and pain

Trust your instincts and intuition to guard against this constant daily diet

Of lies, deceit disguised as ‘news’ I challenge you Just Try It!!

Partly Broken

Read a post on Sinead by Annabel Crab describing people like her (trauma victims) as only partly broken …. they are mostly okay then! Let’s cut each other some slack!

PARTLY BROKEN

I read a tribute to an icon who sadly passed away

A fighter of injustice had lived her final day

What was written hit me greater than anything was spoken

It described those who lived such trauma as only partly broken

If only those people realised that this sentiment is true

See, they cannot see that in themselves but will see it in you

The past, though hidden still defines them, so very hard to break

The shackles of a hidden life sometimes too much to take

If they are only partly broken we need to let them know and

Accept the times that aren’t so good and help them let it go

They are people who’ve lived a life that largely remains unspoken

Help them know they’re mostly okay and only partly broken

Is That A Year

Is That A Year

Is that a year without you now, I can’t believe it so,

Seems sort of just like yesterday, where does the time go?

I go to ring you often still for a chat or just advice,

I imagine I could do it still, shit that would be so nice.

The days dragged at first, a nothingness, a hole,

I seemed to cope the early days but then it took it’s rightful toll,

So many unfinished conversations, things we’d planned to do,

With me still here, the activities, but alas there is no you.

I am selfish and want you back, our story is incomplete,

Such things we’d do and I would say the next time that we meet,

That hole is slowly mending though the emptiness does remain,

But life it gives me so many things to bring me joy again.

New lives are a coming soon, they will hear your tales and name

The Great Uncle they will never meet , though a story ain’t the same

As your music and your humour, courage and conviction,

The loving, laughing, learned man and massive contradiction.

So save up all your energy, cause if what some believe is true,

One day we’ll be together again, our team, me and you,

None will be safe from our scathing wit or wicked repartee,

Just thinking it may happen brings the biggest smile to me.

Thanks for the gifts you left of the times together shared,

We sucked the marrow out of life and never really cared,

The music, mirth and merriment, all the times spent with you,

Remain as the sweetest memories, and sadly these must do!

Love Ya Patty!

Ordinary Miracles

A hot soup or coffee when your just too bloody cold

A hand cross the street when you’re suddenly old

One simple thank you for a daily chore you have done

Or a friend who turns hardship and tasks into fun

Showering at night when you are covered in grime

Someone letting you through when it’s clearly their time

A hug when you need it well that’s a hard one to top

Actually taking a break when you didn’t want to stop

The smile from a stranger or even a friendly gidday

And a relaxing deep breath at the end of a long day

Music is special and what about that particular song

It can change how you’re feeling in not very long

Do not take for granted a profession of love

Or the laughter of children such a gift from above

Feel them and see them there are such treasures in store

They’re all ordinary miracles, you’ll know so many more

Ordinary miracles that put a better light on your way

To a better tomorrow …… you can perform one today

No Time For Regret

I have time for a lot but alas none for regret

Not that I haven’t done things I’d like to forget

The thing is looking back is wasting the now

And you cannot alter the past anyhow

What is next is something I’d prefer not to control

I like the way things unfold as each step takes a toll

Now is the place where all my energy goes

Having a ringside seat while my family grows

Marvelling at sights like the clouds in the sky

And the people and places as I pass on by

Taking time to just breath feel the rays on my face

Spending time at the beach my favourite place

Take on now it will result in a glorious past

And a future with promise as a new die is cast

So give up on what ifs and let go of mistakes

Look forward to the new dawn as it inevitably breaks

Hey maybe your best day still hasn’t been yet

So learn from your past but give no time to regret

Explaining Xmas

Explaining Xmas …. for some

The emotions run wild this time of the year

Often related to people who are no longer here

The void seems much bigger somewhat amplified

But you cannot ignore it no matter how hard you tried

The tears just happen as memories cross your mind

Those of both the highs and lows and they are intertwined

And the dampness there upon your cheeks, shows all that you feel

So much for all those loved ones who copped the rawest deal

Then you snap back into the present and appreciate the now

You wouldn’t know true happiness without heartache anyhow

The tears still flow but amazingly I will not wipe them away

They are a present of the past and now - have a happy Christmas Day

Scomo Equality

Progress he cried our cabinet’s now swimmin’

With puppet-like, do what they’re told Liberal women

The same ones who applauded the protracted inaction

And suggested the uproar ‘bout Britney, overreaction

They’ve formed a committee to give serious thought

To any transgressors ... well the ones who are caught

Relax, the contentious issues if indeed there are any

Will be promptly deferred to Scomo’s clever wife Jenny

Brilliant work Scomo, you should really be proud

You should have no fear in future confronting the crowd

Inequality reigns but no need for us to be shitty

Cause our visionary leader has formed a committee

So much achieved bloody hell they gave it a nudge

But because they needed the vote, kept Alan Tudge

Nice to know he’s working things out as he oughta

Along with Johnsen, Linda Reynolds and Christian Porter

Congratulations to you all but I really must stress

Be on guard for complacency with all this success

Such enlightened productivity is so hard to conceive

Remember if it all goes to shit, you can always take leave!!

The Right To Question

We cannot travel or interact with other nations people, that’s a fact

Nor determine fact from fiction causing not a small amount, of friction

Faceless people have assumed control impervious to the taken toll

Greed and fortune rule their actions dividing opinions, creating factions

An age old mantra reimposed I doubt will ever be fully exposed

And all we know are versions told from sources that are thus controlled

By those who have the most to gain, our sentence an unknowing pain

So many things we’ll never know, corporations now run the show

Now Orwell’s 1984 - has arrived in spades and so much more

Newspapers, radio, Internet, TV ... can we trust all we read or see

The answer, shit I haven’t a clue but the right to question lies with you

How much of the story do we hear, that is what I really fear

Though I am, ‘toeing the line’ - there’s a constant gnawing I can’t define

So I won’t insult those who query or perpetuate some different theory

Above all I bristle at any suggestion that denies our basic right - to question

The 'State' of the COVID Fight

The Duke, she’s a Cowgirl, with the reigns in her mouth

Doesn’t submit to the theories that abound in the South

She will fight, scrap and tussle till her last dying breath

Whilst leading her state into the valley of death

Pal’s a bit different Qld the destination state

With sport in particular, pretty much everyone’s mate

Though lockdowns occur they are fighting the squalor

Taking Netball, NRL and the AFL dollar

Dandy is dour but there is no doubt that he cares

So much so he threw his own self down the stairs

It’s lock early, lock hard and then comment on Sydney

With what amounts to a verbal jab in the kidney

The Marshall is quiet and whilst upholding the law

Doesn’t seem to say much, maybe a trifle unsure

Although opportunity abounds and Steve has had his

The lips remain sealed, look what happened to Gladys

Guts runs Tasmania where the impacts are low

An island is a very handy defence don’t you know

And COVID’s clearly focussing elsewhere of late

The fucker can’t swim, at least not across Bass Straight

Mac he’s the knife who’s used both the cut and thrust

Always slamming the borders shut whilst garnering trust

Of people who live well west of the Nullarbor

Which led to a landslide result and four years more

Of course …

He said and she said and clearly no-one’s in charge

The lack of direction from Scotty looms large

It seems nothing’s achieved by bull, bluff and bluster

With the nation all wishing that he soon GETS A CLUSTER!!

The Virus is Viral

The world is descending in a free falling spiral

I heard just today that the virus had gone viral

My reaction predictably shock and concern

We feel the impact of COVID at every turn

But I surveyed the situation and what did I find

The media constantly changing their mind

Trumpeting contempt of near all course of action

With not one politician receiving positive reaction

NSW has it wrong it needs far more order

Whilst WA they are wankers with their hard border

Victoria found wanting, Croweaters - them too

Tasmania basically didn’t have too much to do

Queensland’s on a bender from temperate to tropic

NT & ACT hardly rate on this topic

The pollies, all of them both Federal and State

Lambasted by journos as plain second rate

This COVID shit … is all you see, hear and read

Relentless to the extent my eyes and ears bleed

I crave for a simple old fashioned political scandal

Choice would be nice too .. the Gourd or the Sandal

(Excuse Life of Brian Reference!!)

So stuff it I say and to hell with this virus

It’s the media that really has been sent to try us

A judgemental, sycophantic form of pollution

Dealing solely in blame and no hint of solution

Yes it’s true, it’s confirmed, the virus is viral

Let’s all do our best there’s no need for a trial

Look after yourself and other people in need

And ignore what’s become a Mass Media Feed

Remember Me

Remember Me

I was driving on my birthday and got a call which I supposed

Was a greeting from my brother but then said he’d been diagnosed

He didn’t dwell or sugarcoat, just said he’d do his level best

To fight it anyway he could and I expected nothing less

Thinking after the years have passed, it now occurs to me

The date and awkward synergy simply say remember me

But I needed not that reminder because I’d loved him from the start

And as so many writer’s wrote, he’s forever in my heart

Strangely there was more to go, on my daughter’s birthday he died

Oh what a stark reminder for me, that cannot be denied

Both dates still bring celebration coupled with the need to pause

Remember Pat and then look around and cherish you and yours

Thinking after the years have passed, it still occurs to me

The date and awkward synergy simply say remember me

But I need not that reminder because I’d loved him from the start

And I live on and know each and everyday he’s forever in my heart

Living and laughing with you still!
