Sundown with Ben
I wanna sit and watch the sun go down just one more time with Ben
Just wander back in time a bit to those good times way back when
He steamed in on an angle his blond hair blowing in the breeze
The ball in hand young batsmen often trembled at the knees
The view for us behind the stumps was a pleasure to behold
It didn’t matter if the ball was new or even forty overs old
We had Wardy and we always felt that things could turn our way
And be celebrating a hard fought win later, at the end of play
And with the bat it was much the same, if Ben just turned it on
Opposition chances of a win, in a moment would be gone
Boundaries smashed and pickets cleared with some monotony
We were there with front row seats, how lucky can you be
But off the field is the real story, just a ripping humble bloke
Who loved his sport, his team, the game, a beer, a laugh, a smoke
He never talked about his feats and couldn’t care less if he failed
All Ben was ever interested in was if the team prevailed
So when we go to cricket now at the Waroona Cricket Ground
Let’s hang around a while until the sun starts to go down
And talk of life and legend of those great times way back when
We were lucky enough to play with and share a sundown beer with Ben.
