Down the Track

You deal with all the day to day with a weight on all you do

And hope that no-one else has to go what you go through

You always think of others and the comfort you convey

To assist friends and family members make it through their day

Sometimes a silver lining, others all you see is black

But simply where you are now is a bit further down the track

You sought of know it's getting better just slowly, bit by bit

You know that's understandable it's been a massive hit

You dont take anything for granted, there's beauty all around

The best of human nature comes from tragedy you've found

You look at all affected so and wish you could take them back

To the time well before now when you're further down the track

Now the time shared is a comfort and the memories a crutch

We are slowly getting better though still not liking it too much

There are looks upon the children's face, familiar turns of phrase

They help get you through lonely nights and the longer types of days

Somehow you get stronger when once you thought you just might crack

Your life shared and the memories too come with you down the track

Whoever has said 'get over it' has simply never felt such pain

The constant gnawing nothingness that occupies your brain

Each day that the sun comes up is a signal somehow life goes on

So please stop and smell the roses, literally one day they will be gone

Don't retreat and don't surrender no matter how the odds are stacked

Because together we can walk the line - a little further down the track
